JANUARY 2006 ART EXHIBIT

Paintings by Barbara Spofford - A Retrospective

Barbara Spofford was born in Malden, Massachusetts and spent most of her life in New England. Her paintings reflect her love of Maine in beautiful landscapes at different times of the year. During WW II she worked for Martin Marietta Aircraft as a draftsperson and designer of seaplanes and bombers. Later she worked for Grumman designing part of the navigational system that was used in the Apollo spacecraft. Ms. Spofford also worked as a sculptor, creating miniature historic buildings of Salem, Mass. The current exhibit displays some of Ms. Spofford's Illustrations for a book on "The Arabian Night." The exhibit is on loan to the library by Wading River resident, Tenney Spofford.
