July 2009 ART EXHIBIT

Exhibition: Photography by Howard L. Stevens

Mr. Stevens, a professor for Radio, Television and Film Program, retired from Suffolk Community College in 2001. He now travels near and far trying to capture images with a special eye for composition and color. Not locked into any theme or form, his photographs bring new visions of ordinary subjects to the viewer. Mr. Stevens' work has been exhibited widely on Long Island. He lives in Rocky Point and is co-president of the Paumanok Camera Club. The Friends of the Library will sponsor a reception for Mr. Stevens on Saturday, July 11, from 2:30- 4:00 PM

In the Glass Case: Ceramics by Pat Swyler

Pat Swyler has been interested in the human figure all her life. Clay, her preferred medium, presents the best possibility to create the form that will be transformed by the firing into a firm and permanent shape. Many of her female forms represent nature goddesses holding floral offerings. Ms. Swyler has taught art for many years. Her work has been displayed widely on Long Island as well as in other states. She currently maintains a private studio in Sound Beach. Everyone is invited to the reception for Pat Swyler in Saturday, July 11, from 2:30 - 4:00 PM, sponsored by Friends of the Library.
