FEBRUARY 2011 ART EXHIBIT

"Royal to Rusty" Photography by Ray Germann and Janet Glazer
In her work, Janet Glazer, artist and professional photographer, searches for movement, strong composition and calligraphy lines. She worked for many years supervising food photography. Her work has been widely shown in New York City galleries as well as colleges - many as one woman shows - including at the New Century Art Gallery. Ms. Glazer also won the St. Gaudins Medal for her drawing. Ray Germann, a professional photographer, brings to life the rusty discarded automobile that is left in the landscape to rust. His work over thirty-five years documents the changes in landscapes and city surroundings, like the once royal vehicle that is now covered with rust and overgrown by vegetation. Mr. Germann’s work is part of several museums’ collections, including The Museum of the City of New York, The New York City Public Library and the Bibliotheque Nationale of France. The photographs in this exhibition represent a tribute to the craft of a bygone age.

Pottery by C.C. Bookout
Well-known potter C.C. Bookout displays her most recent works in the glass case. Although she has fired stoneware for many years, the pieces on display show her first pots fired on a two-chamber wood fired kiln. Ms. Bookout maintained her own studio in Calverton for many years. She also worked as a ceramic instructor for several local institutions, among them the Montessori School, Adult Education at SWR High School and the East End Arts Council. Her work was widely displayed in local and national galleries, including at the Elaine Benson Gallery, Vessels Gallery in Philadelphia, Pa., Hood College in Frederick, Md. as well as the East End Arts Gallery and Suffolk Community College
