Paintings by Robert Maggio

Mr. Maggio, a retired carpenter, now reconnects with his first love - art. As a boy he took classes at Pratt Institute and later attended courses sponsored by Norman Rockwell, Albert Dorne and others. While working as a carpenter for the next 35 years his artistic talent lay dormant. Now in his retirement Mr. Maggio enjoys painting in oil, watercolor and drawing. His subjects include scenes of life in Brooklyn and Manhattan, pen and ink drawings of native Americans and scenes of nature. His work has been displayed in New York City and on Long Island. Mr. Maggio received the Brooklyn Arts and Humanities Award and has been awarded prizes by the Town of Oyster Bay and the North Shore Art Guild.

In the Glass Case: 12 Dancing Princess Dolls

The 12 princesses and 1 prince doll, on loan from Eileen Drower. were inspired by a fairy tale from the Brothers Grimm. "American Girl Swap" is a nation wide organization whose members costume dolls. This particular group decided on the Grimm's fairy tale. Each of thirteen participants chose one princess and hand made the same costume 13 times. Upon their completion, a coordinator distributed the costume sets so that each participant ended up with a full set of the story's characters. The American Girl Swap corresponds through the Internet and meets occasionally in different areas of the country for sewing and friendship.
