May 2012 ART EXHIBIT
Sea and Landscapes by Fred Bender
A lifelong resident of
Long Island's East End,
Mr. Bender concentrates
on marine seascapes
and Long Island landscapes. His works are
often of historical sites,
which he retrieves from
old photographs and
historic LI publications.
His aim is to preserve
the way Long Island looked years ago. Also included in the
exhibition are paintings of historical sailing boats on LI
waters. Mr. Bender traces his feeling for the Eastern LI environment back to his boyhood spent on his uncle's farm and
boating on Peconic Bay. He says that "researching a subject
is often as rewarding as painting it. It gives me not only a
chance to see what Long Island looked like 100 years ago,
but to imagine what life was like at that time."
