Savvy Sightseer Video Vacations: Ireland-From Dublin to Bunratty
The Republic of Ireland’s sights are as varied as its many shades of green. We’ll visit an incredible sight that even frequent visitors to Ireland are not familiar with; then we’ll swing through Dublin before branching out for the midlands, and a stop off at my absolute favorite tiny town, before finishing with the amazing views along the Atlantic seaboard.
Austria: Salzburg & Vienna
For many Americans, the Sound of Music was our first introduction to Austria and especially the starring city of Salzburg. There is so much more to this country than its association with a Hollywood production. It was Marie Antoinette’s childhood playground and home base for the rulers of most of central Europe, the Hapsburgs and the Holy Roman Empire. Seventeenth century carillon chimes, trick fountains, imperial jewels and Roman ruins –so much packed into one country Austria.
Iceland
A short visit to Iceland’s capital and nearby areas is akin to visiting multiple US national parks in just a few days! There are majestic falls, geothermal pools, black sand beaches, shooting geysers, several UNESCO world heritage sites, spectacular volcanoes –Iceland is one of the most volcanically active places in the world –and the fissure where European and North American tectonic plates meet. With such a diverse & compelling landscape, it’s no surprise Iceland has been the backdrop of other-worldly TV shows & movies, including Game of Thrones and Star Wars. see how much there is to this island nation. We’ll visit the capital and travel along two main tour routes: The Golden Circle loop of historical, geologic and cultural sights east of Reykjavik and then the Southern Coast for its beaches and waterfalls.
London, England
With a blend of sophisticated, cosmopolitan and historical sights, London has a wealth of extraordinary places to visit. It is a compact, vibrant city where modern sights coexist with ancient in an odd kind of synergy. Where else could you find a Gherkin and the Eye sharing a skyline with the venerable Westminster Abbey and Big Ben? And then there are the “hidden” spots –the newly opened Galleries of Westminster, and the secret bunker of Winston Churchill! We’ll take them all in on this video vacation London, England.
Letterboxing: Looking for Long Island’s Hidden Secrets! (Things to do!)
Letterboxing, a hobby that started in England in the 1850’s, is an excellent activity for social-distancing times! For people who enjoy the great outdoors, scavenger hunts as well as a puzzle to solve, this is the activity for you! All around you people have hidden beautifully carved stamps just waiting for you to work out the crafty clues and add them to your collection in a stamp logbook. Along the way, you will discover some of the many wonderful parks, preserves, beaches and places you passed by unaware in the days of racing from one place to another. These offer true stop-and-smell-the-roses opportunities to learn more about your local surroundings. Many boxes are hidden a little off the beaten path, social distancing is pretty easy to maintain! Savvy Sightseer Jeanne Schnupp will introduce you to this fun, outdoor, treasure-tracking activity and take you to some of Long Island’s surprising gems in Wantagh, Plainview, Farmingville, Shirley, Huntington, Stony Brook, Smithtown and locally.

The popular Outlander series is in its fifth season; this program highlights the best of Scottish sights while at the same time visiting scenes that helped make the books and TV series such a hit! We’ll stop in at Edinburgh, Glasgow, Isle of Skye, Stirling, Glencoe, Inverness, and of course Culloden Moor.
Savvy Sightseer Armchair Travel: Paris and Northwest France
We’ll visit the fabulous Palace of Versailles’ little-known enclave of Marie Antoinette – her secluded hamlet. Then we’ll head northwest to Normandy and the historic American Cemetery with its moving tributes to our soldiers. We’ll also journey to an island cathedral with an unusual second purpose before sweeping into the lavish Loire valley for its splendid chateaux and Leonardo da Vinci’s surprising stash.

We’ll start in the northern part of the country in Zurich before moving southwest, and on to the French border. We’ll work our way east through Alpine regions. Along the way, we’ll also visit Bern, Geneva, Zermatt (the Matterhorn), Lucerne, St. Moritz, Montreux and Gstaad.
