Below you will find all Children’s programs through June, including their registration dates and other information!

REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED – Child’s name and age/grade MUST be entered in the note field in order to confirm registration. Each library card only reserves one child per program.

  • Children Entering Kindergarten and up attend programs independently unless otherwise noted.
  • Children in Grades Kindergarten and up must be registered using their own North Shore Public Library card.
  • Late Arrival Guidelines: A grace period of 10 minutes will be given to patrons attending a program. Admittance after this arrival time is at the discretion of the library staff.


May Special Events/Programs

May is National Pet Month! Help us celebrate by bringing in a picture of your pet to add to our display in the Children’s Department. Visit during the month of May to enjoy this special display.


May Programs

Seed Bombs, Grades K-5 with a parent/caregiver

Wednesday, May 28, 5:30-6:15 PM

Learn how to transform Flower Seeds into Seed Bombs! Throw them out into your yard and watch flowers crop up where they land.


Sprouts & Friends, Birth-Pre-k, 5 years with a parent/caregiver

Join us for a music and movement program where families will have fun playing, learning, and growing together. Come ready to move and sing!


Hooked on Crochet, Grades 3-5

Thursday, May 29, 6:00-7:00 PM

Join Miss Rachel for this monthly crochet program to practice your skills with friends!



Summer Special Events/Programs

ANNUAL SUMMER READING CLUB: Color Our World

Register online, in-person, or by phone beginning Friday, June 20. Boards filled with all your summer reading challenges will be available to pick up in-person or print out a copy online. Track how much you read by using the Game Board. Color in a box each time you complete a challenge, and visit the library to collect prizes as you go! Complete the whole board and earn a raffle ticket to be entered into one of our BONUS PRIZES at the end of the summer!

Nature Nick’s Animal Adventures, Ages 3 years – Entering Grade 5 with a parent/caregiver

Wednesday, July 2, 6:00-7:00 PM

Kick off the summer with Nature Nick and his animals from around the world! Meet animals such as alligators, falcons, owls, and hedgehogs.


Kids Bookmark Contest!

  • Monday, July 7 – Friday, August 1

Help kickoff our Summer by being part of our Bookmark Contest! Children up to entering Grade 5 are invited to design their own bookmarks. The winning bookmarks will be printed and distributed throughout the library for patrons to take home. All bookmark entries will be displayed in the Children’s Department to view.

Celebrate Hug Your Cat Day with Pete the Cat!, Grades K-2

Wednesday, June 4, 4:45-5:30 PM

Listen to a reading of Pete the Cat and His Magic Sunglasses by Kimberly and James Dean, then paint a picture of Pete and create matching sunglasses for you both.


Tiny Songbirds, Birth-Pre-K, 5 years with a parent/caregiver
Thursday, June 5:
Tiny Songbirds is an educational and fun live music experience for both children and adults! This family concert is jam-packed with instrument experimentation, movement, scarf and parachute play to engage families in the music-making process.

Let’s Make Pasta, Family, Grades 1-5 with a parent/caregiver

Saturday, June 7, 1:30-2:30 PM

Families are invited to learn the traditional art of pasta making. Together you will make your own semolina pasta dough and shape beautifully embossed Cavatelli using both a pasta machine and carved boards. Please bring a large mixing bowl and cutting board to the program.

Come join A Time for Kids in this fun and fast-paced preschool readiness program. Children and adults will work side by side through music, movement, fine and gross motor activities, as well as a storytime. End the class by making a fun craft!


Code Breakers Club, Grades 3-5

Wednesday, June 11, 6:00-7:00 PM

Do you have what it takes to crack the code? Find the hidden objects, figure out the clues and solve the puzzle to earn your prize and “escape the library.”


Cooking Up Love for Dad, Ages 3 years-Grade 5 with a parent/caregiver

Thursday, June 12, 6:00-6:45 PM

Work together to decorate an apron for that special guy in your life! One kit per family.


Toddler Time, Ages 12-35 months with a parent/caregiver

Fridays, June 13 & 20, 10:15-11:30 AM

Register for this 2-week session! Toddlers will enjoy interacting with other toddlers in a setting designed to encourage free play and exploration. Children and adults will enjoy music, a craft, toys, and circle time.


Storytime, Pre-K, Ages 3-5 years

Monday, June 16, 10:15-11:00 AM or 1:15-2:00 PM

Children attend this program independently. Join us for this class featuring stories, songs, rhymes, and more!


Totally Two’s Storytime, Age 2 years with a parent/caregiver

Enjoy this themed storytime where families will hear stories, sing songs, and create a simple craft.

Celebrate World Giraffe Day and Socks’ birthday by making a beautiful safari collage.


Road Trip USA: Maine, Grades K-2

No registration required. Visit us in the Children’s Room to practice your crocheting skills with friends and ask for tips from Miss Rachel. We’ll provide materials, or bring your own. Please have a basic knowledge of crocheting as this will be a self-guided drop-in program.

The lesson plans focus on the animals found at Long Island Aquarium and highlight their taxonomy and adaptations. While they can be used solely in the classroom, these lesson plans also include activities specifically for use when touring the Aquarium.
