Below you will find all Children’s programs through December, including their registration dates and other information!

REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED – Child’s name and age/grade MUST be entered in the note field in order to confirm registration. Each library card only reserves one child per program.

  • Children Entering Kindergarten and up attend programs independently unless otherwise noted.
  • Children in Grades Kindergarten and up must be registered using their own North Shore Public Library card.
  • Late Arrival Guidelines: A grace period of 10 minutes will be given to patrons attending a program. Admittance after this arrival time is at the discretion of the library staff.


November Programs

Registration is required for all programs, unless otherwise noted. Registration for November programs begins Saturday, November 1 at 9:30 AM . Child’s age/grade MUST be entered in the note field in order to confirm registration. Each child must be registered using their own library card. Learn through play in this hands-on program! Adults and children will explore and learn through multiple manipulative stations, stories, songs, and a craft.


Totally Two’s Storytime, Age 2 years with a parent/caregiver

Enjoy this themed storytime where families will hear stories, sing songs, and create a simple craft.


Instrument Petting Zoo, Ages 3 years – Grade 2 with a parent/caregiver

Saturday, November 15

Professional musicians from Stony Brook University Dept of Music will demonstrate various instruments and discuss how each sound is made. Children will have a chance to touch & play with the instruments, and everyone leaves with a musical gift!

Cookies & Bookies, Grades 3-5

Register and pick up a copy of Real Pigeons Fight Crime by Andrew McDonald in the Children’s Room to join in on this fun monthly book club. Kids will read the book, then attend the program for a booktalk, games, prizes, and cookies.

No registration required. Visit us in the Children’s Room to practice the art of crochet and ask for tips from Miss Rachel. We’ll provide materials, or bring your own.

Bring the whole family to our special LEGO Day! Families will work together to make their own creations or everyone can build individually. Come with your imagination; we will supply all of the LEGOs!

Gingerbread House Display

Pick up beginning Saturday, November 29 – Tuesday, December 30

Help us create a gingerbread house village in the Children’s Room! Pick up a paper gingerbread house to decorate at home or at our Art Cart. Return your gingerbread house to the Children’s Room to be put on display all winter long!


December Special Events!

Special Program – Gingerbread House Decorating, Ages 3 years – Grade 5 with a parent/caregiver

Thursday, December 4, 6:00-6:45 PM OR 7:15-8:00 PM

One gingerbread house per family. A $5.00 nonrefundable materials fee will be collected at in-person registration. This is an in-person program and will not be given out as kits. Your family will work together to decorate a freshly baked gingerbread house! Listen to music and get in the holiday spirit.


Special Program – Polar Express, Ages 4 years – Grade 3 with a parent/caregiver

Thursday, December 18, 5:15-6:00 PM or 6:30-7:15 PM

All aboard the Polar Express! Listen to a reading of the classic book, create a Polar Express themed craft, take a photo at the green screen, and then enjoy a sweet treat at our hot chocolate bar. Make sure to wear your most festive jammies!


New Year’s DJ Dance Party, Ages 3 years – Grade 5 with a parent/caregiver

Create your own unique penguin using tissue paper and paint. Dress for a mess!


Paint and Pass, Grades 3-5

Work together to make a collaborative art project! Kids will begin by working on their own canvas. We’ll set a timer and everyone will paint their own canvas, and when the timer goes off pass it to your neighbor. Repeat until your original piece has been transformed by everyone.


Looking Ahead…..Giant Game Day, Ages 3 years – Grade 5 with a parent/caregiver

No registration required. Families can drop into the library to play giant oversized games like chess, Connect 4, Jenga, Tetris, Twister and more!
