Virtual Concert: Canta Libre Chamber Ensemble via Zoom 

The acclaimed Canta Libre Chamber Ensemble will present a virtual concert via Zoom, performing music for flute, strings and harp. Performers: Sally Shorrock, flute; Bradley Bosenbeck, violin; Veronica Salas, viola; Bernard Tamosaitis, cello; Karen Lindquist, harp.

“Featured music will include works by Beethoven, Piazzolla and Vivaldi, as well as original compositions written for Canta Libre by Long Island Composers Alliance members Jay Anthony Gach, Murray F. Cohen, Jane Leslie, and Laurence Dresner.”

Virtual Concert: George Gershwin: An American Original (Part 1) – Join us at the Pianowith Alexander Wu 

A two-part series about the composer and his music, Alexander Wu’s thrilling performances bring to life a unique collection of Gershwin’s earlier piano pieces to his Broadway songs and serious works that include Rhapsody in Blue, An American in Paris and a piano medley arrangement of the folk opera, Porgy & Bess. Fifteen-year-old George Gershwin started out on Tin Pan Alley, but as he gained success writing popular music for the stage and later Hollywood, he began to lead a double life struggling to make his mark as a serious composer.

Virtual Concert: East End Libraries Present: “Universal Love Songs with Sheri Miller” Facebook LIVE Concert 

Join singer-songwriter Sheri Miller, who performs soulful, inspired original songs, while accompanying herself on guitar and piano. To celebrate Valentine’s Day, Sheri will sing a wide range of uplifting, universal love songs from The Beatles, Louis Armstrong, to her own timeless originals. She has released 2 critically-acclaimed records, “Mantra” and “Winning Hand,” as well as her original song” I Could Love You Still” (feat. Will Lee, Paul Shaffer, and Steve Cropper).


Virtual Concert: East End Libraries Present:The Blues and Beyond

Blues and Beyond tells the story of African Americans in the United States from slavery to the present day by exploring and documenting, with music, videos, narration and illustrations, the evolution of African American music alongside U.S. history.  From field hollers and camp meetings to old spirituals to the Blues to the popular genres of today, music is the means by which African Americans have told their story.” The program is delivered using Zoom and allows viewers to interact with the program performers and narrators.

Virtual Concert: Alex Wu presents: The Original Gershwin Part II

A great American story trumpeting in the modern era; born at the turn of the century to Jewish immigrant parents, resided and schooled on the lower east side, self-taught pianist and composer living out his dream becoming a songwriter for Broadway with his hit songs marking America’s first “pop music”. Will include performances of music by Gershwin’s contemporaries and inspiring backstories of “The Roaring 1920s” economic boom and America’s great achievements in the arts, literature, sciences and other fields during his time.

Ireland may be an ocean away, but professional storyteller Jim Hawkins is a virtual bridge back to the “old country” for the audiences he transforms with his gift of Irish storytelling with pathos and humor. The stories and songs you will hear are from a variety of themes in Irish history, culture, and tradition. Jim is guaranteed to make you laugh, cry and laugh once again with tales of the Irish and the Irish experience.

Unbossed and Unbowed: The story of Shirley Chisholm

Time you meet this 20th Century politician Who Shook up America!  This is an immersive and interactive solo show about the 1st African-American woman to run for the Presidency of the U.S. In the 1960s and ’70s, this Brooklyn-born daughter of Caribbean parents was on a mission. They called her the black Joan of Arc. She called herself Fighting Shirley as she faced off against the political machine in the name of justice. Ingrid Griffith (SAG/AFTRA) is the writer and performer of this solo work inspired by the life and times of the icon/trailblazer Shirley Anita (St. Hill) Chisholm.

Resonating Earth with pianist Carolyn Enger is a cinematic concert collaboration with the video artist and Peabody Award-winning producer Elliott Forrest (WQXR). Combining beautiful music from the Baroque period to the present with contemplative natural imagery, Resonating Earth inspires reflection, awareness of our place in the world, and our responsibility to the planet. This program is brought to you by the East End Library Collaborative project.

NSPL and Twin Forks Musicivics Inc. bring this video musicast for your listening pleasure.  Zach Silberschlag puts together a wonderful assortment of pieces from across the musical spectrum. Beginning with the Klezmer influenced solo fantasy “Klezmerelda” for trumpet and Piano. The music of Debussy, Brahms, Ricardo Drigo, Charlier, Mercadante to spirituals.

Concert: Cramer Quartet 2

The Cramer Quartet is back through the partnership of NSPL and Musicivics Inc.  With period instruments and an invigorating historically informed approach, the Cramer Quartet brings uncommon warmth, transparency, and texture to Classical and early Romantic repertoire as well as commissioned works that explore and expand the sound world of gut strings. The quartet’s stylish, nuanced interpretations and visionary approach to programming stimulate dialogue around old and new works, inviting audiences to listen with fresh ears. This program will include pieces by Joseph Boulogne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges, Caroline Shaw and Hyacinth Jadin.

Based in New York City, members of the Cramer Quartet are persons of color, women, gender non-conforming/non-binary and LGBTQ individuals committed to centering the voices of underrepresented and marginalized communities.

Concert: East End Libraries Present: “The Precisions: A Filmed Concert,” via YouTube

The Precisions are a five-member live band who have been entertaining audiences for decades. Originating in Brooklyn, NY as a vocal group, The Precisions recorded the national hit song, “Someone to Watch Over Me“/Golden Crest Records. Today, The Precisions include Catherine Santaniello, one of Long Island’s top female vocalists. They are popular among fans of classic and vintage rock, and are known for their wide-ranging repertoire.


Concert: Mirroring the Other: Reflecting Jewish Experience in Medieval Germany

Codex Manesse, as well as secular songs, religious poems, liturgical texts, and contemporary chronicles. Delight in the antics of an early Purimshpil and the onomatopoeic sounds of medieval life as well as the sheer beauty of the earliest Jewish chants that survive in Western notation. Special Event: Carl Safina: Tales And Tails

Carl Safina’s work explores how we are changing the natural world and what the changes mean for human and non-human beings alike. Carl sees that the durability of human dignity and survival of the natural world will depend on each other; we cannot preserve the wild unless we preserve human dignity, and we cannot conserve human dignity while continuing to degrade nature. His lyrical non-fiction writing fuses scientific understanding, emotional connection, and a moral call to action.

Carl’s Safina’s  writing has won a MacArthur “genius” prize; Pew, Guggenheim, and Nation Science Foundation Fellowships; book awards from Lannan, Orion, and the Nation Academies; and the John Burroughs, James Beard, and George Rabb medals.

Audubon magazine named Carl Safina among it “100 Notable Conservationists of the 20th Century.” Utne Reader listed him among “25 Visionaries Changing the World.”


Concert: “Alkemie & Friends”

NSPL and Twin Forks Musicivics Inc. brings to you a uniquely creative musicast with “Alkemie and Friends”. Alkemie performs medieval music grounded in historical performance practice and they enjoy experimenting and collaborating with other musicians from all genres.

The musical program is: The “Cantigas de Amigo” by Martim Codax (13th century poet-composer), a poetic song cycle composed of 7 short pieces. This artful performance is weaved with a childhood story book coupled with set design, stick puppetry, medieval music, and poetry. The musical arrangements and edition are their own and created for this piece. This performance is brought to you through an ongoing community collaboration with Twin Forks Musicivics Inc. and the NSPL.

Concert: Reames Duo: Finzi and Debussy

Join us for this week’s performance, featuring Christopher Reames, tenor, and Kanako Reames, piano. In this musicast performance you will hear pieces from Finzi’s song cycle A Young Man’s Exhortation by Gerald Finzi, and excerpts from the poetry of Thomas Hardy.  In addition the Cinq poèmes de Charles Baudelaire (Five poems by Charles Baudelaire) by Claude Debussy and excerpts of poetry by Charles Baudelaire. This performance is brought to you through an ongoing community collaboration with Twin Forks Musicivics Inc. and the NSPL.

Concert: Ackley Duo “Songs for Trees”

NSPL and Twin Forks Musicivics Inc bring back the Ackley Duo who combines cello, voice, and mandolin in a performance of original compositions & traditional tunes.  Taylor Ackley is a multi-instrumentalist, voice artist. Alison Ackley plays the Cello and is a vocal artist as well. You will hear “Hey Little Birdie,” “Shading Romance,” “Letting Go,” “The Riddle Song,” “If You See Him Say Hello”, and “There Ain’t Nobody Gonna Miss Me When I’m Gone.” This performance is brought to you through an ongoing community collaboration with Twin Forks Musicivics Inc. and the NSPL.

Concert: Chivalrous Crickets

The Chivalrous Crickets is an upcoming, genre-crossing folk band exploring the intersection between Appalachian, Old Time, traditional English and Celtic, and early European art music. The band’s members, who all sing, play instruments, and arrange and compose for the group, come from backgrounds of folk and early classical music. Their skills and interests combine to form a unique sound centered on rich vocal harmonies, diverse timbral blends between modern and recreation historical instruments, and inventive, historically researched programs. Concert: North Coast Winds

Join the Ohio based North Coast Winds for a high-octane trip through time and space, culture and place. Works by American-powerhouse composer Valerie Coleman’s Tzigane, Antonín Dvořák’s Serenade for Winds, Op. 44 by Jesper Jerkert and Bozza Scherzo for wind quintet, a post-impressionistic nod to the French origin of the title Tzigane and the atmospheric history of previous works by the same name. This musicast is brought to you by our community partnership with Twin Forks Musicivic Inc.


Concert: Francisco Roldan: Classical Guitar

Shtrykov-Tanaka Duo: The Romantic Clarinet: Rare Treats and Masterpieces

The critically acclaimed Shtrykov-Tanaka Duo presents a program centered around the works of Clara and Robert Schumann in the Romantic Era in Germany. The Duo will perform original works and arrangements featuring  Clara Schumann’s   Drei Romanzen, Op. 22 (1853) and Robert Schumann’s chamber music masterpieces:  Robert SCHUMANN (1810-1856):  Fantasiestücke, Op. 73 (1849),  Adagio & Allegro, Op. 70 (1849) and  Intermezzo from F-A-E Sonata (1853). “Pure Joy” with Paige Patterson

Paige Patterson debuts her crowd-pleasing show for East End Libraries with a holiday concert.  Musical Therapy for The Soul “. In true Paige Patterson fashion, she performs holiday music that revives one’s memory of a bygone era, and restores one’s faith in the power of the season. Listen to the classics like “White Christmas”, “Santa Baby”, “Winter Wonderland”, “Please Come Home for Christmas”, and the true standard, “The Christmas Song”. This program is  “Musical Therapy” for the soul!


The Cool Trio

The Cool Trio met in 2006 when all three were faculty colleagues at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston, Illinois.  In this program you will hear: Trio for Violin, Clarinet and Piano written by Paul Johnston and tributes to bebop clarinetist Buddy DeFranco, Artie Shaw, Benny Goodman, Barney Biegard, and Buster Bailey.   When CT is not practicing their 11/8 rhythms or working on their intonation, they can be found playing Euchre, memorizing Jason Mraz songs, or revisiting decade-old inside jokes.  This program is brought to you by a collaboration of NSPL and Twin Forks Musicivic Inc.
