New Library Material Catalog Search Option! - North Shore Public Library

North Shore Public Library, along with the rest of the Suffolk County libraries, will be transferring from our current library material search catalog, Encore, to a new interface called Vega! This transition will be gradual and allow users to adjust to any changes which will take full effect come 2025.

We want to introduce our patrons to the new material catalog and explain some of its enhancements! You can use this new catalog to search for items, request/reserve items, check your library card account information and status, and more, just as you can currently, but with more user friendly and advanced features. Both platforms are fully connected to your library card and account and you will have both options in the coming months.

You can log into this catalog the same exact way as you would currently, but you will notice after that some changes and advancements that make the online library material search experience much better in many ways.

One way is how this interface adjusts perfectly on any device you want to use. Whether you are searching for a book on the go from your phone, or if you are at home on your computer or tablet, this interface will look and work great while also adhering to accessibility standards!
Another major enhancement is the combining of collections by joining all our digital material, online resources, and in-library physical material together. Connecting multiple formats allows for search results from Kanopy, Libby/Overdrive, physical material at the library, and more to all show in one spot. Currently, Hoopla is not part of this combining of collections, but will be in the future.
There are more advanced ways to search for material with smart searching and filtering. This interface also will have the ability to be easily updated with new features and enhancements since it is built on new technology, allowing for it to only keep getting better.
There are even separate "departments" for just our children's material, filtering out non-age appropriate material automatically.

The search bar at the top of our website is still the current/old catalog for now, but we will be including the new interface as a second option in the coming weeks so patrons can experience both. If you want to get a head start and try it out, please feel free by clicking the link below!
