Tell Congress Not to Defund Libraries!

Make Your Voice Heard!

Libraries are the heart of our communities—providing free access to knowledge, technology, and support for lifelong learning. But they need your help! Stop by your local library to learn how you can contact your Congressional representatives and urge them not to defund libraries. You’ll get all the information you need to take action and protect the funding that keeps these vital institutions strong.

Your voice matters. Let’s stand together for libraries!

Public libraries need your voice to protect vital federal funding that keeps our communities connected and thriving.

Why Library Funding Matters:

    • IMLS Support: The Institute of Museum and Library Services funds e-books, career resources, reading programs, and more.
    • Suffolk Impact: New York receives over $8 million in IMLS funds, directly supporting local youth summer reading programs.
    • E-Rate Program: This FCC program provides deep discounts on high-speed internet and secure networks for schools and libraries.
    • Digital Lifeline: Free broadband at the library connects job seekers, students, veterans, and seniors to essential online tools.

What is at Risk:

    • Service Cuts: Dropping IMLS funding threatens early literacy, technology access, and cultural programming.
    • Internet Loss: A current FCC proposal questions the future of E-Rate, which provided $177 million to New York libraries and schools in 2025 alone.
