Below you will find all Children’s programs through October, including their registration dates and other information!


October Programs 


Registration is required for all programs, unless otherwise noted. Registration for August Programs begins Saturday, October 1 at 9:30AM. Child’s age/grade MUST be entered in the note field in order to confirm registration. Each child must be registered using their own library card. Each library card only reserves one spot per program.

Online registration is recommended. Program space is limited and classes fill quickly.


Halloween Celebration Monday, October 24 – Monday, October 31

Celebrate Halloween all week long at the library! Make a Halloween craft at our Art Cart, explore Halloween sensory bins, and see if you can solve our spooky scavenger hunt. Come dressed in costume to receive an extra special treat!

Happy Halloween Busy Bag, Ages Birth – 2 years

Pick up beginning Monday, October 3 – Saturday, October 8

Get ready for Halloween with this craft-to-go! Kit comes complete with a reusable activity pack, surprise giveaway, and keepsake board book.


S’mores Slime Kit, Ages 3 years – Grade 5

Pick up beginning Monday, October 3 – Saturday, October 8

One kit per family. Use s’mores ingredients and so much more to create a stretchy marshmallow slime!


October In Person/In Library Programs

Totally Two’s Storytime, Ages 2 years with a parent/caregiver **In Library**

Tuesday, October 4, 10:15-10:45 AM

Children must be 2 years old to register for this program. Enjoy this themed storytime where families will hear stories, sing songs, and create a simple craft.


Staller Center’s Instrument Petting Zoo, Pre-K, Ages 3 & 4 years with a parent/caregiver **In Library**

Thursday, October 6, 10:15-11:00 AM

Professional musicians from Stony Brook University Department of Music will demonstrate various instruments and discuss how each sound is made. Children will have a chance to touch and play with the instruments, and everyone leaves with a musical gift!


Paint and Listen, Grades 3-5 **In Library**

Thursday, October 6, 6:00-7:15 PM

Learn step-by-step techniques to paint your own fall pumpkin on canvas, while listening to live music!


Toddler Time, Ages 18-35 months with a parent/caregiver **In Library**

Tuesdays, October 11, 18, & 25, 10:15-11:30 AM

Register for the 3-week session

Children can learn and play in an interactive environment for both children and caregivers. Enjoy music, crafts, toys, blocks, and a fun circle time.


STEAM Storytime, Pre-K, Ages 3 & 4 years with a parent/caregiver **In Library**

Wednesday, October 12, 11:15 AM-12:00 PM

Join Miss Danielle for this hands-on storytime science program! Kids will learn science through read-alouds, tinkering, and exploration.


Fall Tree Painting, Grades K-2 **In Library**

Thursday, October 13, 4:45-5:30 PM

Using a cool technique, paint a fall colored tree with Miss Lynn. Dress for a mess.


Babies Boogie, Birth – 17 months with a parent/caregiver **In Library**

Friday, October 14, 10:15-11:00 AM

Babies and their grown-ups will enjoy music, movement, dancing and more!


Toddlers Tango, 18 months – Pre-K, 4 years with a parent/caregiver **In Library**

Friday, October 14, 11:15 AM-12:00 PM

Little ones will get moving in this fun class with music, movement, dancing, and more!


Family Pumpkin Painting, Ages 3 years – Grade 5, with parent/caregiver **In Library**

Sunday, October 16, 1:15-2:00 PM

Pick a pumpkin and use paint to create a unique design. We’ll supply the pumpkins and paint. Dress for a mess! This program will take place outside, weather permitting.


Trap a Monster, Grades 3-5 **In Library**

Monday, October 17, 4:45-5:30 PM

Join Miss Danielle for this exciting STEM program where you design and build your own monster trap.


Tots Night Out: Pumpkin Fun, Ages 18 months – 4 years with a parent/caregiver **In Library**

Tuesday, October 18, 6:00-7:00 PM

Come join A Time for Kids in this fun and fast-paced preschool readiness program. Children and adults will work side by side through music, movement, fine and gross motor activities as well as a storytime. Get ready for some fall fun with an adorable pumpkin craft.

Create your own spooky snowglobe, perfect to display for Halloween.


Storytime: Spooky Stories, Pre-K, Ages 3 & 4 years **In Library**

Join us back in the Storytime Room! Enjoy some spooky Halloween stories, flannel boards, and a fun craft. Children will attend this Storytime independently.

iPads To Take Home

Call or visit the library to borrow a Children’s iPad loaded with age-appropriate and educational games! iPads come pre-loaded, without internet access and can be borrowed for 14 days. Call the Children’s Department for more information or to put an iPad on hold at 631-929-4488.

Long Island Aquarium Educators have designed age-appropriate learning resources and activities for grades K-12. The lesson plans focus on the animals found at Long Island Aquarium and highlight their taxonomy and adaptations. While they can be used solely in the classroom, these lesson plans also include activities specifically for use when touring the Aquarium.
