“From an early age, I have been attracted to artworks and illustrations that are “painterly” in nature, meaning the Artist’s hand is clear to see and brushwork vital to the impact of the work. During my formal training at Maine College of Art and Ohio University School of Art I have explored this loose and textured brushwork in early abstracts and in the landscapes I paint today.”
The terrain of the LI’s parks and marshes, with its combination of smooth beaches and spikey marsh grass is perfect subject matter for incorporating this expressive brushwork. I use acrylic and oil paint equally, and will often incorporate a painting knife or other tools for texture and marks.”
